LAW FIRMS
Law firms are becoming more competitive with their use of presentation technology in the courtroom.
“Seeing is truly believing” for many jurors whose minds are wired for getting a large portion of their information from television. It is a well known fact that when visual presentations are combined with oral presentations, a juror’s comprehension and retention of the information more than doubles. In response to this, Law firms are becoming more competitive with their use of presentation technology in the courtroom. It is no longer good enough to be a gifted verbal storyteller. The true advantage goes to the lawyer who is both a good verbal storyteller and an extraordinary visual story teller to the TV-era jurors. Attorneys are using presentation technology to powerfully impact the judge and jury with their message and to win cases.
Law Firms that don’t own their own turn-key multimedia systems are at the mercy of what the court can provide. Unfortunately, too many courtrooms have not standardized or integrated the multimedia equipment needed for digitized or multimedia evidence. Law firms are also put at a disadvantage if the opposing counsel owns their own multimedia equipment and is well practiced at using it effectively during the trial.
Nomad’s line of mobile Multimedia Podiums and Presentation Stations level the playing field in the courtroom for law firms.
Nomad Technologies’ line of mobile Multimedia Podiums and Presentation Stations integrate a wide variety of multimedia equipment into compact units, which can be easily transported from law offices to courthouses, and from courtroom to courtroom as needed. All integrated equipment is securely mounted and pre-cabled to avoid time-consuming set-ups. No pre-existing infrastructure is needed within courtrooms for the Nomad systems to operate. Nomad Multimedia Podiums and Presentation Stations are truly plug and play. An integrated control system is designed to be intuitive and extremely easy to use by a wide range of presenter skill levels. Attorneys can easily practice their delivery of evidence at the convenience of their law office “war rooms” before trial, and then easily move the Nomad unit to the courthouse when needed. Owning Multimedia Podiums or Presentation Stations ensures that law firms have every technological advantage in presenting their cases and evidence to jurors for a winning outcome.
Examples of how equipment integrated into Nomad’s Multimedia Podiums or Presentation Stations are used for evidence presentation in the courtroom:

Evidence projected onto a large screen through an integrated LCD Projector
All forms of evidence, whether digitized or in its native form can easily be projected onto a large screen for the jury to view for better discernment. Manual circulation of exhibits is time consuming, and distracting to the jury, not to mention disruptive to the examination of witnesses. Trial time can be shortened by 25 to 50%, when the manual process is eliminated and exhibits can be displayed onto one or more screens via LCD monitors, LCD projectors or other display technologies. The jurors and judge can see the projected exhibits simultaneously while hearing related testimony. For instance, a letter containing incriminating evidence can be displayed from the PC or simply laid under a Document Camera, and displayed onto a very large screen so that each juror can view it simultaneously, without the need for the letter to be passed around to each juror. Many courts feel that fairer verdicts and judgments result when jurors can clearly see evidence blown up and projected through an LCD projector onto a large screen.
Evidence presented or managed through the integrated PC or Laptop
Paper documents, video, audio, charts, graphs, etc, . . . can be digitized and stored on a PC or Laptop hard drive and projected onto an enlarged screen through the integrated LCD Projector.
- Computerized animation & simulations such as: Forensic animation, computerized accident recreation, or demonstrations of complex processes—help reduce complexity of evidence & increase understanding.
- Chart evidence summaries or calculations.
- Analogies portraying a case theory.
- Opening statements guided by many visuals such as slides.
- Litigation support and presentation software such as Sanction, TrialMax, Visionary, Trial Link, Trial Director, DocuLex View-it, Summation or Concordance.
Barcode readers that work with trial software or directly with DVD players or portable hard drives can provide instantaneous access to the evidence.
Evidence presented through the integrated Document Camera
Evidence in its raw or native form, which has not been digitized such as: paper documents, 3 dimensional objects (i.e. weapons, mechanical devices), pictures, signatures, maps, etc, can be simply placed under the Document Camera for projection onto a large screen.
Evidence presented through the integrated VCR or DVD player
Deposition video clips—Rather than reading a deposition transcript at trial, it is far more interesting to show edited excerpts of videotaped deposition. It is far more memorable to the jurors to see the video tape of the witness in testimony combined
with a split-screen display of the specific documents being alluded to.
- Video of walk-throughs and re-enactments.
- Secondary witnesses testifying via video tape.
- Video clips of trial testimony
- Evidence stored on VCR tapes or older video camcorders
- Digital Camera images (can be connected through the input devices on the VCR & DVD combo player.)
- Digital Camcorder images (can be connected through the input devices on the VCR & DVD combo player.)
- Testimony clips in closings
- Ipod or MP3 players--
are easy to carry into trials and can be easily connected to the Nomad for viewing of photos, listening to 911 audios, or even viewing full motion videos. (Can be connected through the input devices on the VCR & DVD combo player.)
- Barcode readers that work directly with DVD players can provide instantaneous access to the evidence.
Evidence presented through Video Conference connection option
Remote witnesses appearing live via videoconference.
Evidence presented through output to a variety of display types.
Jurors often have a hard time discerning what they are
seeing when trying to view an exhibit on a small TV
screen, monitor or story board. Larger monitors or screens make it easier for jurors to see and study the details of exhibits. The Nomad units can output to a variety of displays like portable or permanently mounted: projection screens, CRT monitors, plasma displays, white boards, and flat panel LCD displays. This allows the law firm to have more flexibility in how they want to display evidence in any courtroom setting. This also helps attorneys deal with any courtroom layout limitations. Attorneys can position the screen where it will be the most effective to their oral argument. Ideally, the screen will be positioned close to where the attorney will speak so that the juror’s eyes are on them as well as the evidence. Similar to a TV weather anchor standing next to the weather board.
Information can also be displayed on separate monitors for the jury, judge, witness and the attorney depending on the needs of the court.
Auditory evidence presented and heard through an integrated robust Bose multimedia sound system

The clarity of auditory evidence is greatly enhanced for Juror’s hearing and understanding when played through the integrated Bose Multimedia Sound System rather than an antiquated court sound system or an LCD Projector’s speaker system with muffled sound. Listening to the audio of 911 calls for instance, would have a clearer sound if heard through the Bose sound system.
The Bose sound system accommodates a room up to 350 people.
Annotation of evidence is possible by adding an annotation option to a Multimedia Podium or Presentation Station.
With the annotation option, Attorneys can draw attention to crucial evidence details, or demonstrate direction by using their finger on a touch screen monitory to draw brightly colored lines over any images displayed. Nomad Technologies works with two different annotation technologies and integrates the annotation model which is the best fit for the Podium or Presentation Station a customer purchases.
Recording litigation proceedings, mediations and training sessions is possible by adding a Rich Media Recorder option.
The Rich Media Recorder will record the attorney speaking together with any type of evidence that is presented through the Nomad Presentation Station or Podium. The recorded session is put online for viewing live or on-demand through any web browser. Trial teams benefit by watching the recorded audio/video, text and evidence of the proceeding over the internet in real-time.
Additional benefits to owning a Multimedia Podium or Presentation Station
